Key Information Concerning Natural Cartilage Regeneration

By Dr. Grazyna Pajunen

Several controversies have emerged in the medical field concerning the feasibility of natural cartilage regeneration. There has been a debate over whether this process is possible in human beings of all ages. The research conducted in this regard show that children and young individuals experiencing growth are able to experience the process while in fully grown adults it takes place at a very slow rate. The reason behind this is that the blood that reaches cartilage is very little and is not enough for repair and growth. Fortunately, medical research has led to the discovery of techniques necessary to stimulate these processes.

Cartilage is the connective tissue located between bones. The rate of growth and repair in this tissue is slower compared with other connective tissues in the human body. It is damaged when there is a poor supply of nutrients to the ligaments preventing the complete healing of injuries. It can also be damaged by inflammatory disease and degenerative diseases.

The treatment methods that are commonly applied yield varied outcomes. There are patients who are completely treated while others are left struggling. Doctors can choose between two approaches for the treatment process. This includes surgical methods or extracting cells from certain body parts to implant them on the damaged part.

Medical researchers are in the process of conducting a number of experiments in this area of medicine. Growth hormones are known to stimulate the rate of cell production and they have been widely adopted in these tests. The effectiveness of the minute holes drilled in the bones that lie near the damaged tissue when injected with certain substances to stimulate growth is also being studied.

There are several experiments that are underway. One includes the use of growth hormones to stimulate the process of cell production. The results obtained so far indicate that it very effective in the treatment of elbows and ankles. Microfracturing which involves the drilling of very small holes in the bone adjacent to the affected tissues has also been adopted. Other mechanical approaches include the use of carbon nanotubes to stimulate tissue regeneration.

Most people experience problems in their cartilage as a result of aging. A certain gene present in our body has been identified to prevent the impact of aging on individuals when it is stimulated. Several supplements have been developed to aid in the process. These supplements are designed with unique characteristics such as anti-inflammatory properties and are effective antioxidants. They contain numerous essential minerals and vitamins that prevent complications that result from aging.

Vitamins are known to enhance the ability of the body to heal wounds and injuries present. Therefore doctors recommend individuals to take action and make the necessary dietary adjustments that consist of all the essential nutrients. Vitamin C is an important nutrient that can be obtained from the consumption of fruits, vegetables and dietary supplements.

It is advisable to enroll for a specialized exercise program that is not strenuous to facilitate the movement of the affected joints. This helps to prevent the joints from growing stiff due to immobility. Joints are vulnerable to degeneration and the needs of their repair usually hinder the ability of the body to produce new cartilage. Natural cartilage regeneration is a slow process and requires stimulation through techniques that ensure a constant supply blood to these tissues.
