By Dr. Kevin Dobrzynski

Is there a hypothyroid diet connection?

If you ask your doctor this question he or she will most likely answer no.

In order to fully understand the link between what you eat and hypothyroidism, however, you have to consider the cause of hypothyroidism, which is not something that many doctors do.

Unfortunately, a lot of doctors are focused on only two things...diagnosis and treatment.

You might find yourself asking, "Aren't diagnosis and identifying the cause the same thing?"

The answer is NO.

Diagnosis is a label. This helps doctors and insurance companies categorize illness. This illness is then assigned a number or code.

If a doctor doesn't have this code, the doctor cannot get paid.

I'm going to share a secret with you - and once you know it, you'll understand the cause of dis-ease of the body.

When you know what's causing a problem it should be easy to treat, right?

95% of all dis-ease is due to diet and the environment.

Now, if you ask your doctor what the most common cause of hypothyroidism is, you should get an answer.

This is the answer...

Throughout the world iodine deficiency is the most common cause of hypothyroidism.

Iodine deficiency is due to a lack of this mineral in the diet.

This happens to be a link between dietary habits and hypothyroidism.

So, the solution to hypothyroidism in underdeveloped countries is to add iodine to the diet.

Unfortunately, if you live in the U.S. you can't fix hypothyroidism by simply adding iodine.

If you have an iodine deficiency, it might help.

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is the top cause of hypothyroidism in the U. S, which is way iodine is not likely to help. This disorder is autoimmune and its cause is not yet known.

Diet is also a major part of the a Hashimoto's treatment however, because this is a disease that results from diet and the environment.

Hashimoto's and diet will be discussed in a future article.

You now know the cause of most dis-ease and one link between hypothyroidism and diet.

If you suffer from this ailment, place your focus on nutritional deficiencies as this is not something that many doctors do.

Think about reading The Hypothyroid Diet.

Be well,
